About the Role 

As Customer Experience Library Engagement Officer, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Provide excellent friendly, approachable and efficient customer service
  • Developing, delivering and evaluating, community focused programs for all ages
  • Provide leadership and oversee effective operations as and when required

Key Selection Criteria

  • Post-trade or other post-secondary qualification is required
  • Knowledge and skills gained through on-the-job training commensurate with the requirements of the role
  • Proven planning skills to assist with the development of new community programs
  • Proven experience facilitating programs for all ages either in public libraries or in a teaching capacity
  • Ideally proven supervisory skills to undertake supervisory responsibilities as required
  • High level of quality, organisational and time management skills
  • Able to work independently and contribute as part of a team to meet organisational strategic outcomes and provide quality service delivery with strong customer service focus
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate with all ages across all areas of our community and ability to manage conflict
  • Hands on information technology and problem-solving skills for a range of information technology and software tools
  • Proven ability to effectively and efficiently provide quality customer service
  • Driver’s licence is essential

JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for a Library customer service officer to deliver best practice library services across our libraries. The position is based at Liverpool but work across libraries and locations is expected.  Hours are spread across 5 shifts a week, rostered as 2 x morning, 2 x afternoon and 1 x evening or weekend shift per week.

The role is 100% customer facing and previous public library experience would be highly regarded.

This position requires ALIA recognised qualifications as library technician or above. 

ABOUT YOU 

To be successful:

  • Completion or progress towards completion of a Diploma in Library and Information Science or equivalent, conferring eligibility for associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association.
  • Class C Drivers Licence
  • Demonstrated experience working in a customer service environment including cash handling
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work within a multi branch team
  • Supporting staff and customers in the policies and procedures, including use of equipment and access to the collection
  • Assisting with information enquiries
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for Library innovation and experience in upgrades and change.

YPRL is currently seeking a permanent part-time Officer – Reading, Learning & Community, with 2 positions available at multiple locations, however, you may be required to work at any other YPRL sites when required.   

Our Officers provide a high standard of service to Yarra Plenty Regional Library customers and to the wider community.   

About You:  

The ideal candidate for this position will possess strong customer service skills. They will need to be able to communicate effectively with all library users and members of the community, including the ability to interact with both children and their parents.  The successful incumbents will provide a high level of customer focus and will actively encourage enthusiasm for reading in children.  They should actively encourage a love for reading through reader advisory and prioritise customer satisfaction.  Adaptability, flexibility, and a positive team-oriented approach are essential qualities we are looking for in the successful candidate.   

Responsibilities:  

  • Providing courteous and effective communication with all customers to provide an efficient and timely service based on good knowledge of library products and services  
  • Maintaining a high level of customer focus by responding to customer needs, assisting with promotional activities, functions and displays, providing basic reference information and participating in the provision of community engagement services to grow library membership and usage

About the role 

Yarra Plenty Regional Library is seeking a permanent part time Senior Customer Service and Events Officer to ensure excellence in customer service to library users through the provision of high quality and efficient library and information services which is responsive to the changing needs of customers.  

 This position is located at Rosanna Library. 

 The successful applicant will have a strong desire to contribute to a positive team culture and demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in their work, as well as an ability to:   

  • Respond to a wide range of customer information and reference needs and requests by utilising branch collections, products and services. 
  • Provide Readers Advisory services that demonstrate a good understanding of the process, combined with high level reading knowledge. 
  • Perform a range of library operations that support customers in a self-serve environment based on high level knowledge of library products and services, including circulation and collection maintenance duties. 
  • Maintain a high level of customer focus by responding to customer needs, assisting with promotional activities, functions and displays, (including the coordination of book groups) and participating in the provision of Public Participation services to grow library membership and usage. 
  • Understand the YPRL Brand and Style Guide and ensuring that branch marketing and outreach collateral adhere to the guidelines. 
  • Support events, including set up and delivery of events and logistical support for larger events, for both in-branch events and outreach. Have an understanding of YPRL’s programming framework and goals. 
  • Effectively and efficiently operate and maintain community room schedule and requirements. 
  • Actively participating in planning and staff meetings. 
  • Attend relevant forums and training. 
  • Contribute to the role of the library as a place for reading, learning and community. 
  • Market library services that YPRL provides to the local community. 

  An integral part of this position is the delivery of weekly storytimes. 

The Senior Customer Service and Events Officer may assist branches in delivering programs at YPRL’s other library service points, including the Mobile Library and Hubs, as well as outreach in community locations if required. This position will report to the Branch Manager. 

 About you 

 You bring a qualification in Library and Information Studies, Marketing and Communications, Event Planning, or possess equivalent skills and experience that align with the requirements of this role. 

With a strong customer-first mindset, you’re confident in delivering prompt, courteous service to a diverse community, and you have a solid understanding of library services, collections, and products. You're passionate about promoting a love of reading, with experience in Readers’ Advisory services and a broad knowledge of literature to match. 

You’re proficient with Windows, Microsoft Office, internet research, email, and social media platforms. Content creation comes naturally to you, and experience with tools like Canva is a definite plus. 

You're comfortable assisting a culturally diverse public with reference and information services, and your strong written and verbal communication skills help you connect clearly and professionally. 

Detail-oriented and creative, you have a basic understanding of design principles and bring enthusiasm to both independent and team-based tasks. Previous experience in a library environment will be highly regarded.

About the Role 

Yarra Plenty Regional Library is excited to offer a newly created, fixed term full-time opportunity for a passionate and innovative individual to step into the role of Coordinator, Creative Studios & Engagement at Rosanna Library. 

This position will develop, promote and deliver innovative library programs and services, with a particular focus on coordinating and managing the technical operations of the Recording and Podcasting studios (MakerSpace) to enhance the community engagement and creativity.

As part of establishing this exciting new MakerSpace, the Coordinator, Creative Studios & Engagement will take the lead in developing clear procedures, training, and engaging programs that bring the space to life.

As the Coordinator, you will: 

Commitment to Program Development and Delivery:

  • Build and maintain effective partnerships with community groups, educational institutions, key stakeholders and the wider community.
  • Plan, coordinate, deliver and evaluate engaging library programs and events in collaboration with branch staff.
  • Delivering programs in branch and at other library service points including outreach as required.
  • Support marketing and promotion of library events and programs.

 Commitment to and provision of excellent library services through:

  • Performing a range of library operations that support customers in a self-serve environment based on high level knowledge of library products and services, including circulation and collection maintenance duties

MakerSpace Facilitation:

  •  Manage the technical operations of the MakerSpace, including maintenance, system functionality, and  coordination with contractors, to ensure reliable and safe use of all A/V and creative technology resources.
  • Develop and implement documentation, inductions and operating procedures to ensure safe, consistent, and effective equipment use by staff, partners and customers.
  • Establish and maintain systems for managing equipment hire and facility bookings, ensuring efficient, transparent, and customer-friendly processes. Oversee bookings and provide technical support for events and recordings involving the public, Council and community stakeholders.

Responsibilities and duties included in this Position Description are subject to the Multi skilling provisions of the Yarra Plenty Regional Library Enterprise Agreement.

 About you 

You bring a combination of formal qualifications—such as a degree or graduate diploma in a relevant field—or equivalent hands-on experience in audio engineering and recording studio operations.

You're a strong communicator with a proven ability to build meaningful relationships across all age groups and cultural backgrounds.

You're proactive and creative, with experience in designing and delivering engaging programs, events, or projects—ideally in a library or community setting. You have a solid understanding of current trends in library programming, particularly around STEAM and literacy.

Technically savvy, you’re confident using both PC and Mac platforms, with high-level proficiency in audio-visual software and a passion for keeping up with emerging technologies. You’re experienced in training others—whether staff or members of the public—and can contribute to the development of procedures and operational documentation.

Your customer service is second to none, and you bring a friendly, solutions-focused approach to every interaction. You're also comfortable using a range of digital tools, including Microsoft Office, internet-based platforms, social media, and library-specific systems and equipment.
