The opportunity

Support the delivery of innovative, inclusive, and community-focused library services, with a strong emphasis on engaging children, young people, and families. Plan and evaluate programs, outreach, and collections that align with Council values and strategic goals, while supervising staff and volunteers, acting as Senior on Duty when required, and collaborating across departments to enhance service delivery and community participation.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Tertiary qualifications in Libraries, Community Development, Education or related field, or lesser formal qualifications with relevant work experience
  • A current Victorian driver’s licence
  • Proven experience in designing, delivering, and promoting community-based programs, especially those involving children, young people, and families
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and adapt across formats and audiences
  • Capable of managing workloads independently, resolving customer enquiries effectively, and contributing to team processes with high-level digital proficiency

About the role 

The Council’s Arts and Culture Department is looking for casual Librarians who will be responsible for providing excellent Customer and Information Services to the community.

So much more than books, the library today is a safe space for the community to create, engage, enjoy or just be. Frankston City Libraries has branches at Frankston, Carrum Downs and Seaford, plus outreach locations across the city.

The main responsibilities for the positions will include: 

  • Acting as a duty manager to supervise, support and motivate a team;
  • Resolving complex customer queries, complaints and other escalated issues to ensure fair and appropriate outcomes;
  • Assisting customers and other staff members in the discovery and use of new technology; and
  • Supporting the team by performing daily operating tasks as required.

These are casual positions and could be rostered at any library location on weekdays, weeknights and weekends.

About the Role 

As the Reading Buddies Project Officer, you'll be responsible for:

  • Delivering innovative and consistent customer focused service
  • Implement and report on the Reading Buddies Project by working to transform literacy into a shared pleasure and a valuable skill
  • Build effective relationships between schools, teachers, students, and parents emphasising the importance early literacy and enjoyment of reading 

Key Selection Criteria

  • Degree in library & information management and/or education
  • OR
  • Lesser formal qualifications with relevant work skills and experience commensurate with the requirements of the work required
  • Understanding of Community Development principles, familiarity with literacy­ promoting resources, the importance of early childhood literacy as well as the ability to work strategically
  • Understanding of Department of Social Services Data Exchange and SCORE reporting systems, preferable but not essential
  • Skills, experience, and ability working creatively and effectively in partnership with families, caregivers, their school ­aged children from diverse socio­cultural, literacy and language backgrounds and key community stakeholders including schools and other service providers
  • High level interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, along with conflict resolution, advocacy, problem­ solving and networking skills, preparing external correspondence and writing reports in their field of expertise, preferably along with experience in regular reporting and use of reporting software
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet organisational strategic outcomes
  • Proven experience investigating and developing effective and efficient programs within either the library sector or teaching
  • Time management, organisational and planning ability
  • Relevant experience in a public library environment is desirable
  • Knowledge of children’s literature, language and literacy development
  • Driver’s licence and own vehicle essential

The Centre Services Officer is responsible for delivering Library and Centre Services primarily at the Dalby Library.

Key Responsibilities This role encompasses a range of duties and responsibilities which may vary as directed by Council.

About the position

About the position

The Library Technical Services Officer – Marketing and Promotions will work within a team to deliver both customer services and technical services to internal and external customers as well as develop and maintain the Library website and social media platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide circulation services, including item loans/returns, new memberships, and customer support.
  • Assist with research enquiries, reader advisory, and local history services.
  • Support the planning and delivery of library programs, events, and staff training.
  • Maintain library records, statistics, and databases.
  • Contribute to acquisitions, cataloguing, and collection maintenance.
  • Manage promotional content for the library’s website, social media, and online tools.

About you

  • Diploma of Library and Information Services (Library Technical Studies) or other qualifications recognised by the Australian Library and Information Association.
  • Current Class C Driver’s license and ability to drive a council vehicle.

  • Demonstrated ability to use an Integrated Library Management System.

About the role

We are looking for qualified Librarians to join our team. You must hold an undergraduate qualification or post graduate qualification in Librarianship/Information Management with eligibility for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association.

The Information Librarian works within the Creative and Engaged City Department at the Keysborough Community Hub and both libraries at Springvale and Dandenong.

The role’s key responsibilities include providing effective and efficient library and information services to all Library users and our diverse community. Additional responsibilities include supervising the front of house Library Services team to provide a responsive and flexible service, support and deliver high-quality library programs to promote learning, literacy, reading and social inclusion, and support collection maintenance and development activities.

About you

The successful applicant will have demonstrated knowledge of information service provision to people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, experience in staff supervision in a library environment, experience in conducting staff and/or public training programs, be a committed, considerate, and pro-active team member, and have a passion for supporting and engaging with the community.

You will be flexible and willing to support the team including on evening and weekend shifts across our locations.

You may be required to undertake practical testing, work preference profiling / psychometric testing, functional capacity assessment (physical) or aptitude testing.

The successful candidate will be asked to produce a clear Working with Children Check and will be asked to consent to a national police check (and where relevant an ‘international criminal history check’), subject to the operation of spent conviction laws.
