The Penrith City Library Service provides an array of informational, educational and recreational resources and services for residents and visitors through three branch libraries, a home library service, community events and pop-up libraries, children’s and adult programming, physical and digital collections, local history collections and programs, and a toy library service. Resident surveys consistently show Penrith City Council libraries to be one of the City’s most popular services.

About the role

A key member of the Library Management Team, this role supports the delivery of a responsive and efficient library service across Penrith City Council by ensuring high-quality customer service, effective daily operations, and safe, welcoming spaces. Responsibilities include managing staff rosters and training, maintaining WHS compliance, overseeing creative technology and library IT systems, coordinating building maintenance, and confidently managing projects and budgets to drive continuous improvement and service excellence.

Essential criteria

  • Relevant university qualification with eligibility for professional membership of ALIA
  • Demonstrated recent public library and supervisory experience
  • Proven ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams and functions, with a strong focus on customer service delivery
  • Demonstrated strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • High-level interpersonal and communication skills, with experience in working effectively with staff and the public
  • Current Class C Driver Licence

Salary: The salary for this position ranges from $116,235 to $134,546 per annum, plus 12% Superannuation, and will be negotiated commensurate with the skills, qualifications and experience of the preferred applicant. 

Access to a Leaseback Vehicle or Motor Vehicle Allowance is available with this position; however, it is not a condition of employment.

In this role, you will provide customer service and deliver creative technology programs focused on digital literacy across the Penrith City Library Service. You will also assist with daily operations and community engagement at the St Marys, and St Clair branch libraries. This position is based at St Marys library.

Essential criteria

  • Relevant degree or TAFE diploma (or equivalent) with eligibility for an Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) associate membership
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Experience in delivering a diverse and innovative range of digital literacy and technology-based programs to a broad range of community groups of all ages
  • Demonstrated strong digital literacy skills and experienced in PC troubleshooting, library systems, online databases, mobile media platforms and creative technologies
  • Current Class C Driver Licence

The Opportunity

Lithgow City Council has an exciting opportunity for a Part Time Library Officer - Branch Programs to join their team in Lithgow, NSW for a period of up to 12 months.

Reporting to the Library Coordinator, you will be responsible for supporting and delivering best-practice Library and Outreach programs through planning, delivery, evaluation, and communication; provide direct customer service and enhance customer engagement. This position works across all library branches depending on rostering requirements. 

More specifically, your duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Assist with the planning, preparation, and delivery of library programs and events for various age groups which may include community interests, including digital literacy programs, preschool Storytime, book groups and author talks.
  • Liaise with local schools and community groups to build partnerships and engage them with the library.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Branch Library under supervision of the Library Coordinator and in partnership with the Library Officer - Branch Services.
  • In conjunction with the Library Officer – Branch Services, ensure there is an appropriate range of stock and library resources to meet local needs. Contribute to the collection development by assisting with selection and accessioning of library resources.
  • Contribute to maintenance of Library Statistical Information through collection and reporting of statistics relating to all aspects of Branch usage and services.

About you

The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:

  • Completion or progress towards completion of a Diploma in Library and Information Services or equivalent, recognised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) or related tertiary qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience delivering educational or recreational public programs for diverse audiences. 
  • At least 2 year’s experience working in a public library.
  • Experience in the delivery of quality customer service to internal and external customers
  • Proficiency in the use of a variety of computer applications including Microsoft Office, the internet, email and social media.
  • Commitment to Work Health and Safety
  • Class C Drivers Licence 
  • Current Working with Children Check 
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principals of honesty and integrity 

In addition, an ideal candidate would have experience in running a branch library and cataloguing experience.

This position leads a team of staff providing exciting and welcoming services to the young people of the Cockburn Community and their families.

The Person

The Library Service is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated person to coordinate Young People’s Services for Cockburn Libraries across the three branch libraries - someone with a passion for engaging with young people from babies to toddlers, from children to teens – and providing services, events and programmes that encourage them to love reading, learning, creating and visiting their local libraries!

We want to hear from you if you have a great understanding of collections that inspire and engage children and families as well as the collections and programmes which enrich early literacy development.  Our successful applicant will also have recognised tertiary qualifications, eligibility for membership with the Australian Library and Information Association and a valid Working with Children card.  Also essential are sound knowledge of library practice and demonstrated ability to deliver programs for young people.  

Hours: This role is being offered a on a full-time basis at 76 hours per fortnight including regular evening work.  There may be the requirement to work Saturdays -both morning and afternoon.   This position is required to work across all three library locations and for this a Driver’s Licence is required. 

Salary: $94,455 - $104,959 per annum dependent upon skills and experience.

YPRL is currently seeking a permanent part-time Technician – Reading, Learning & Community, with 3 positions available at multiple locations, however, you may be required to work at any other YPRL sites when required.

Our Technicians provide a high standard of service to Yarra Plenty Regional Library customers and to the wider community.  The ideal candidate will demonstrate a courteous and effective communication style, with the ability to interact with both children and their parents.  The successful incumbents will provide a high level of customer focus and will actively encourage enthusiasm for reading in children.  If you have knowledge and/or experience in assisting with or delivering programs or activities, we want to hear from you.

About you

Our Technicians are responsible for:

  • Responding to a wide range of customer information and reference needs and requests by utilising branch collections, products and services. 
  • Provision of Readers Advisory services that demonstrate a good understanding of the process, combined with high level reading knowledge. 
  • Performing a range of library operations that support customers in a self-serve environment based on high level knowledge of library products and services, including circulation and collection maintenance duties. 
  • Maintaining a high level of customer focus by responding to customer needs, assisting with promotional activities, functions and displays, (including the coordination of book groups) and participating in the provision of Public Participation services to grow library membership and usage.

 You will contribute to the planning and achievement of the branch and regional objectives through actively participating in planning and staff meetings by contributing to the role of the library as a place for reading, learning and community.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop and deliver innovative online engagement strategies to increase the Hume Libraries membership base and drive engagement, interaction, and awareness of services
  • Under guidance of the Coordinator Library Engagement & Partnerships, act as Hume Libraries’ liaison with external designers and the central Strategic Communications team to ensure support in the effective, timely delivery of all promotional activities
  • Manage Hume Libraries’ digital channels, including website, social media, events calendar and e-newsletters
  • Graphic design of branded print and digital collateral for library activities, events, programs, reports and collections using the Adobe suite in line with various style guides
  • Graphic design of promotional collateral to support campaigns including digital screen advertising, brochures, bookmarks, posters and postcards where needed.
  • Drive enhanced community engagement with Hume Libraries by increasing set benchmarks to an identified and agreed percentage point
  • Identify and support relevant cross-promotional opportunities within the team, Department and wider organisation
  • Liaise with Hume Libraries’ programs and collections teams to develop and distribute promotional materials to the community. This will include, but is not limited to, monthly calendars and newsletters.
  • Plan and distribute member attraction, promotional and event materials to key locations for maximum attraction and visibility
  • Support library coordinators in the planning, development and delivery of targeted promotional campaigns including using sponsored social media, analytic tools and other outreach initiatives.
  • Support the content management planning of the Hume Libraries social media profile through planning, content management and moderation and adhering to all relevant policies and guidelines. This includes developing video content.
  • Represent Hume Libraries on the Public Libraries Victoria Marketing, Advocacy & Engagement Special Interest Group.

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

  • Demonstrated experience in the creation of creative, unique and engaging content for social media, and ability to utilise analytic tools to measure success
  • High level of proficiency in utilising the full suites of Microsoft Office and Adobe software
  • Demonstrated ability to write, proof and edit engaging content for websites, newsletters and brochures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and positively contribute to the team.

Required Certifications & Qualification

  • Degree or Diploma in Marketing, Communication, Advertising or Media studies with little or no experience; or lesser formal qualifications with work skills and relevant experience in a similar role in a library or community setting.
  • Current driver’s licence.
