About the role

As the Branch Team Leader you will be responsible for leading a team at any location in Parramatta Libraries. 

We are seeking a dynamic team member to provide exceptional customer service, supervise and train branch staff, promote library services, and manage both physical and digital resources to meet the diverse needs of our community. This role also involves coordinating educational programs, maintaining branch statistics, supporting budgetary responsibilities, and ensuring compliance with Council policies, WH&S, EEO, and cultural diversity principles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead branch staff, oversee work experience programs, and coordinate user education initiatives within established frameworks.
  • Develop and maintain the branch collection, participate in cataloguing, manage physical resources, and contribute to budgetary decisions.
  • Supervise public IT resources, provide access to online databases, and offer research, information, and referral services.
  • Coordinate & deliver community-focussed programs
  • Manage physical resources and the environment to provide welcoming and attractive spaces for our library users
  • Work closely with Branch Team Leaders and other library teams to Supervise and coach relevant staff, liaise with other information and library staff

About You

The successful candidate should have previous experience in staff management and a proven track record of delivering targets and projects within a public library environment, complemented by exceptional skills in customer service, teamwork and problem-solving.

You will also bring:

  • Recognised qualifications in Information Science/Librarianship (eligible for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association {ALIA}). 
  • Working with Children Check 
  • Criminal History Check Experience 
  • Exceptional customer service, strong teamwork, and a comprehensive understanding of NESB and local community needs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

On a daily basis you will:

  • Deliver memorable customer experiences aligned with Council’s Customer Service Charter and Phive Customer Service Competencies Framework, using every interaction to build positive connections with the community.
  • Assist the Branch Librarian/Team Leader with daily operations such as rostering, asset management, and programming, and coordinate small projects to enhance service delivery.
  • Train staff in library operations and digital resources, and support customers in using ICT services and mobile apps to improve their technology and literacy skills.
  • Facilitate early literacy programs for children and digital literacy sessions for adults, offering one-on-one and group support in using new technologies.
  • Perform general library duties including shelving, tidying, and collection management, while ensuring customer service areas remain clean, organized, and welcoming.

About You
The successful candidate should have previous experience of service delivery and improvement, with excellent communication skills and the ability to actively listen to and understand customer’s needs. You will be organised and self-motivated, a team player with a cooperative attitude and a mindset of inclusivity and support for colleagues.

Role Overview

Gympie Regional Council is currently looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated librarian to join our team as our Young People's Librarian on a permanent full time basis. This position is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of dynamic and inclusive library services, programs and collections that are responsive to the needs of children (birth through to age 12), young people and their families. This role focuses on promoting literacy, education, and lifelong learning through engaging programs, reader's advisory, and community outreach.

This position will be responsible for tasks such as:

  • Lead the development, delivery and promotion of literacy, reader development and digital programs, collections and services for children and young adults that are responsive to the needs of children, young people and their families.
  • Deliver training to library staff in relation to children and young people’s programs and services.
  • Ensure the library is a dynamic and integral part of the community by promoting young people’s services, providing outreach programs and liaising with relevant groups.
  • Formulate, establish and review strategies and policies, set goals and project priorities in children’s and young adults’ areas, and monitor workflows.
  • Actively participate in the Library Leadership Team, providing advice and contributing to service-wide strategic and operational plans, reports, policy, procedure and process improvement.
  • Provide operational support to the library service desk as rostered and undertake all related duties in accordance with Policy, Guidelines and Work Instructions.

To be successful in this role, candidates should have:

  • Degree or post graduate-level degree in Library and Information studies, Education or other related discipline.
  • Well-developed presentation and facilitation skills, with the ability to develop and deliver library programs for children and young people, including knowledge of the State Library of Queensland’s First 5 Forever program.
  • Well-developed library collection management skills and a strong knowledge of children’s literature and reading requirements and the development of literacy skills.
  • Knowledge of Makerspace and experience in STEAM educational programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and teamwork skills.
  • Well-developed management/leadership skills and the ability to motivate others.
  • Project implementation/management and report writing skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with library budgetary management.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Eligibility for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association.
  • Training and assessment qualifications.

The Opportunity

To efficiently and effectively coordinate Council’s Library and Information Services to the community within legislative requirements and Council policies.  

About Us

Banana Shire is situated in Central Queensland, Australia located 120 km west of the growing industrial city and port of Gladstone - and an easy drive to the city of Rockhampton.

Our population is approximately 15,000 people spread over 28,577 square kilometres. Major industries in the area include Coal Mining, Power Generation, Beef Production, dryland cropping and irrigation such as Lucerne and Cotton. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Deliver a high standard of customer service in the community in a library setting, including responding to the needs of the community 
  • Supervise, lead and maximise the performance of the Library and Information Services Team 
  • Manage collection development, information and reference services
  • Oversee and grow the Mobile Library Service operations 
  • Act as Systems Administrator for the Library Management System
  • Promote and market library and information services throughout the Shire
  • Source alternative funding though grant applications, sponsorships/partnerships with service providers 
  • Oversee the collation and maintenance of statistics • Plan and coordinate improvements to equipment and library buildings
  • Encourage, attract and manage volunteers to assist in the provision of services and activities
  • Prepare and monitor the Library and Information Services budget, including providing quarterly reports and timely reports on variations to the Manager
  • Promote the image of Council and the maximise good public relations
  • Liaise with clients, other Council staff, the public, consultants, utility and government authorities in the performance of duties including providing and obtaining information
  • Undertake other relevant duties as directed

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND LICENCE REQUIREMENTS 

Mandatory 

  • Degree and/or Diploma in Library and Information Services, Community Services  or equivalent experience
  • Current ‘Working With Children’ Blue Card
  • Current class C drivers licence Desirable 
  • Degree / Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Services

ABILITIES, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED 

Mandatory

  • Leadership and coordination skills, with the ability to stimulate a high level of performance and foster teamwork  throughout the Shire
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to lead the provision of quality customer service in a library and information services environment
  • High level of understanding  and commitment to EEO and WHS principles and practices

Desirable

  • Demonstrated skills in budget development and monitoring, planning and policy formation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to produce high quality reports
  • Advocacy skills to champion the library services via various medium.

About the role

We are looking for a Library Coordinator to join the Communities and Libraries team in a permanent, full-time role based at Beechboro Public Library. This position sits within the library leadership team and supports the Learning Communities Managers; by managing the day-to-day operations of the library ensuring it remains a welcome place for visitors. Further this position is responsible for staff development, effective roll-out of new and/or streamlined processes, staffing rosters and working with other staff within the hubs to provide innovative services to our communities.

Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to;

  • Responsible for assisting in the management of a Place Hub facility.
  • Assist with projects across the library system, specified budgets, assets, resources and staffing for the library in line with the City’s strategic direction.
  • Work with the other library coordinators, specialists, and managers to ensure that the six City of Swan Libraries remain innovative and leading edge and thrive in a world of fierce competition and constant change.
  • Collaborate and work with internal and external stakeholders to meet the needs of the library users and community
About you

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Tertiary degree in a relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team, preferably in an automated public library environment
  • Highly developed customer service skills and an ability to create a customer focused environment
  • A willingness to undergo assessment under the Working with Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act 2004
  • Current ‘C’ class driver’s license
  • A satisfactory National Police Certificate is required.
