We have an exciting opportunity for a Library Team Leader to join our dedicated team at North Lakes Library. In this leadership role, you will play a key part in driving team performance, fostering a positive workplace culture and delivering exceptional service to our community. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing a team of library staff in their daily operations as well as managing the library’s collection to meet the needs of the local community.
  • Use a range of workforce management initiatives to lead and support your team, whilst providing expert advice and support to the senior leaders and staff.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders and regional partners to build relationships and ensure the library’s services are meeting the needs of the community.
  • Additionally, you would be responsible for maintaining the library’s facility and venue, contributing to the review of library processes and services and preparing business plans and reports on service outcomes.

North Lakes Library is open 7 days/week, closed on public holidays. We operate with a 4 week rotating roster, and the successful applicant will need to be available to work 5 out of 7 days as part of the ordinary hours. Shift times will be between 8:00am to 6:15pm, we anticipate the roster for this role will include working 1 weekend (Sat & Sun) every 4 weeks and may include late closing one evening a week at 8:15pm.

About the Department

  • You will need to be an effective communicator with excellent customer service skills
  • You will need to have strong computer skills with knowledge of current library technologies and practices and have excellent internet research skills

About the role

We are seeking a passionate and community-focused Local History Specialist to preserve, curate and share the stories that shape the City of Canning’s identity.

This is a dynamic role where you will develop and maintain the City’s local history collection, oversee digitisation projects, deliver engaging programs, and collaborate with individuals, families and community groups to capture materials of historical significance. What you’ll be doing in the role

  • Developing, maintaining and preserving the City’s local history collection in both physical and digital formats
  • Leading digitisation initiatives, metadata creation and ensuring accessible digital pathways

  • Designing and delivering engaging programs, exhibitions, talks, workshops and community partnerships that celebrate local history

What you can bring to the role 
We’re after someone with a passion for local history and heritage, and the skills to preserve and share stories that matter to our community. You’ll need to be confident managing collections, comfortable with digitisation and archival standards, and proactive in engaging people and partners. You will also bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Management, Archival Studies, History, Anthropology, or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience managing local history, heritage or archival collections, including digital archives and digitisation projects
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple initiatives and deliver them effectively
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage confidently with individuals, families, community groups and internal stakeholders
  • High level of digital literacy, including experience with content management systems, digitisation tools and metadata standards
  • A community-focused approach to storytelling and heritage, with the ability to work respectfully across diverse cultural narratives
  • Flexibility to work evenings or weekends for programs and events, when required
  • A current WA Driver’s Licence, valid Working with Children Check, and National Police Clearance (less than 6 months old)

About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Coordinator Library Programs and Marketing, the purpose of this role is to maximise community satisfaction with City of Ryde Libraries through the management and delivery of high-quality Local Studies and family history collections and research services.

The library operates in a team environment. The role involves extensive collaboration with the Library Resources, Operations and Programs teams to achieve the objectives and initiatives outlined in the library plan.

Your commencing annual salary will range from $84,308.22 to $103277.57 + superannuation, dependent on the skills, qualifications and relevant experience of the suitable candidate.

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Programs Librarian Local Studies to join the Library Programs Team at City of Ryde Libraries. We are looking for someone with a passion for local and family history and community engagement, skills in leading a team and utilising a range of technologies and the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Development, curation and management of the Local Studies and family history collections to maintain and improve access to Local Studies collections, both physical and digital, and to lead the innovation and growth of these collections
  • Establishment and maintenance of relationships with relevant City of Ryde staff and key stakeholders, including professional networks, relevant committees and community groups and individual members of the community.
  • Management of projects relating to the development of the Local Studies collection and available services, including actively acquiring materials that reflect and preserve the diversity and stories of the City of Ryde
  • Raising awareness of Local Studies collections through promotional activities, training and displays, including through collaboration with other Library and Council teams
  • Assistance in identifying and applying for external grant opportunities relevant to Local Studies.
  • Provision of training in the Local Studies collection and its services for library staff, City of Ryde staff and researchers from the community.
  • Provision of professional and responsive customer and information services
  • Provision of leadership for customer service shifts when assigned as Shift Supervisor
  • Contribution to and support of the achievement of library service goals as identified in City of Ryde's strategic and planning documents
  • Recruit, develop projects for and supervise volunteers

Key Requirements

  • Degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information Science or equivalent recognised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)
  • Substantial experience in the delivery of local studies and family history library services
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of technology related to local studies, including library management systems and digitisation practices
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Class C Drivers Licence
