Yarra Libraries is looking for an enthusiastic and highly organised individual with excellent customer service skills, confidence reading to children and their families, and a commitment to ensuring positive community outcomes. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the development and delivery of regular library services, programs and events (including one-to-one digital literacy sessions, early literacy programs and outreach activities)
  • Providing exceptional customer service and proactively assisting members with library services and resources
  • Supporting the day-to-day operations of our library branches (including shelving, circulation and collection maintenance as directed)

This role is primarily based at Richmond Library but is rostered to work across all five library branches and other service points as required.

About the Opportunity

We are currently seeking a customer focused and experienced Library Customer Service Officer to join our team on a part-time basis, working 32 hours per week across Monday to Saturday.

In this role, you will provide high-quality customer service and support the community’s use of library resources, technology, digital platforms, and participation in literacy and learning programs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering excellent customer service at library branches, outreach locations, and community events, ensuring all visitors enjoy a welcoming and engaging library experience.

  • Assisting customers in making full use of library resources, equipment, technology, and online services through proactive engagement and support.

  • Maintaining the library’s customer service areas, including shelving returned items, tidying shelves, updating noticeboards, and refreshing promotional displays and exhibitions.

  • Undertaking a range of duties including rostered desk shifts, evenings, and Saturdays across any Cessnock City Library branch.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need a Certificate III in Library and Information Services, Customer Engagement, Business Administration, or a related field, along with public library experience. You should be committed to delivering high quality customer service, ensuring users feel supported and engaged. Strong accountability, proactivity, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential for success.

The ideal candidate has:

  • Bachelor's degree or graduate diploma in a relevant field, with a focus on youth services.
  • Previous experience working with children and/or youth in a library or educational setting, with a passion for youth development and literacy promotion.
  • Strong knowledge of children's and young adult literature, as well as current trends in youth services programming.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with children, youth and community members from diverse backgrounds.
  • Creativity, enthusiasm, and a collaborative spirit, with a commitment to providing exceptional library services for children and youth.

Position 4: 60 hours per four-week period (Relief, all locations)

1 x Limited Term Part Time
Position 5: 67.5 hours per four-week period (until 1 February 2026)

Casual
$36.3042 per hour plus 25% loading

Position 6: No guaranteed hours
 

Whitehorse Manningham Libraries are currently recruiting for Customer Service Officers. The successful applicants will have excellent customer service skills and be comfortable working with a range of different technologies and people.

Applicants must have the ability to be able to work at any of the Whitehorse Manningham Library Branches and have the flexibility to work a variety of days and shifts, including week days and weekends.

  • Salary of $42.05 per hour plus 12% superannuation, commensurate with skills and experience.
  • Library Band 4.

The Opportunity 

Moonee Valley City Council is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Library Reader Services Support Technician to join our Libraries and Learning team. This role provides high quality customer service to library members and works as part of the central library administration to provide organised and efficient delivery of library materials. If you're passionate about public libraries and community engagement, and thrive in a hands-on, team-based environment, this is your opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the prompt and accurate provision of new library materials to library members by processing magazines and adding items to the library database.
  • Communicate with external vendors, library suppliers, partner libraries and interlibrary working groups.
  • Provide direction, supervision and on-the-job training to the Library Collections Support Officer. 
  • Undertake customer service duties as required, including relief at other library locations and monitoring of the central telephone number, to ensure efficient operation of the library service.
  • Ensure customers have a positive experience with Council by providing prompt, accurate, courteous, and consistent customer service
  • Contribute to Library Administrative tasks such as financial processes, daily roster adjustments, and enquiries from customers
  • Ensure the library environment remains welcoming, clean, and accessible

Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will have a diploma of Library and Information Services acceptable for Library Technician membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) and bring demonstrated customer service experience in a public library setting. You’ll have a good understanding of the role libraries play in the community, strong communication and teamwork skills, and the ability to follow procedures accurately — especially relating to manual handling and processing materials. Proficiency with digital technology and library-related systems, as well as basic time management and problem-solving skills, are essential. Some experience working in technical services or with library promotions is desirable.
