Children and Youth Services Librarian

  • Norlane, Victoria
  • Corio Library
  • Permanent, Part-Time, 0.8 FTE, 56 hours per fortnight.
  • Salary range Band 5: $ 79,353- $ 91,254, plus 12% superannuation
  • Rostered evening shifts are a requirement of this role.

About the role:

We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Children and Youth Services Librarian to lead our efforts in serving the youngest members of our community.

This role provides enriching experiences and resources for children and youth, igniting curiosity, sparking imagination, and empowering young learners to explore the world through books, technology, and creative programming.

Key activities that you'll be doing:
 

  • Develop and implement innovative and interactive programs and services for children and youth, including storytimes, STEAM activities, literacy workshops, and youth engagement and programming.
  • Curate and maintain a vibrant and diverse collection of children's and young adult materials, ensuring they reflect the interests and needs of our community.
  • Drive community engagement by collaborating with local childhood and education providers, community organisations and youth services to promote literacy initiatives and enhance library outreach efforts.
  • Support the Library Coordinator in their day-to-day activities and be prepared to act in their position as required.
  • Provide reference assistance and reader's advisory services to foster a love for reading and learning.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where children and youth feel valued, supported, and encouraged to explore their interests and talents.
  • Utilise technology and digital resources to enhance library services, including online learning platforms, educational apps, and virtual programming.
  • Stay informed about current trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in library services for children and young adults, and incorporate them into programming and outreach efforts.

The ideal candidate has:

  • Bachelor's degree or graduate diploma in a relevant field, with a focus on youth services.
  • Previous experience working with children and/or youth in a library or educational setting, with a passion for youth development and literacy promotion.
  • Strong knowledge of children's and young adult literature, as well as current trends in youth services programming.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with children, youth and community members from diverse backgrounds.
  • Creativity, enthusiasm, and a collaborative spirit, with a commitment to providing exceptional library services for children and youth.
  • Proficiency in technology and digital literacy skills, with the ability to integrate technology into library programs and services.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic and evolving environment, with a dedication to lifelong learning and professional growth.
