About this position

A rewarding opportunity is available for a self-motivated and enthusiastic Library Officer to provide exceptional library services, assist customers, and contribute to engaging library programs and events.

The City operates four libraries across Gosnells, Beckenham, Thornlie and Southern River and the successful applicant may be rostered at any of these locations. The Library Service operates seven days a week, with evening and weekend shifts required.

In this role, you will

  • Assist customers with enquiries, memberships and digital support
  • Contribute to library programs and events
  • Support general library operations, including desk shifts, stock processing and other duties as directed
  • Assist with collections maintenance
  • Merchandise and promote library resources
  • Deliver library services across the City's branches

What we are looking for

To be successful, you must have:

  • Confidence in delivering library programs for children and adults
  • Experience in libraries or a related customer service environment
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with teams, individuals and the community

Essential requirements

Greater Dandenong Libraries is one of the busiest library services in Victoria and is experiencing a period of growth and opportunity for the Library Service.

An exciting opportunity is currently available for a Library Technology and System Support Officer to join the dedicated Greater Dandenong Libraries, which sits within the Creative and Engaged City department. You will work as part of a team responsible for the provision and support of Library Technologies and Systems across our Library services.

Your primary purpose in this position is to:

  • Support users in the effective use of Library software, equipment, and devices in the Library environment to agreed service standards.
  • Provide excellent service delivery and promote the use of technology throughout Library Services.
  • Provide effective 1st and 2nd level technical support, problem solving, user training and documentation.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have the following qualifications or experience, knowledge and skills to carry out this position:

  • Degree or Diploma qualifications in Information Technology and/or Industry recognised qualification/s, e.g. Microsoft Certified, ITIL, etc. with little or no relevant experience or through lesser formal qualifications with demonstrated knowledge of computing in a Library or public access environment and ability to resolve 1st and 2nd level information technology support issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in a Library and service delivery environment supporting library technology and systems.
  • Demonstrated excellent understanding of customer service and client / provider principles in the provision of superior service including empathy when dealing with user problems.
  • Demonstrated ability in the delivery of a broad range of customer services through phone, face-to-face and written communication mediums.
  • Demonstrated ability in working independently as well as contributing to business unit goals as a member of a cohesive and efficient team.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing small group and one-on-one training and instructions to users.
  • Demonstrated effective planning and project management skills including the ability to prioritise competing demands, handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines to agreed service standards.
  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence.

About the opportunity

Blacktown City Libraries are seeking an enthusiastic library professional to lead several teams within the library service (Library Courier, Home Library Service and Mobile Library) on a permanent, full-time basis.

The job also includes the development of events and campaigns that address the needs and interests of adults. This includes programs that are developed in partnership within Council and other organisations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Contributing towards library services for the Blacktown community in the area of services to adults with a special focus on events and programs to older adults

About the role  
As the Branch Team Leader you will be responsible for leading a team at any location in Parramatta Libraries. 

We are creating an eligibility list if any position becomes available during this time for leading a team at any location in Parramatta Libraries. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead branch staff, oversee work experience programs, and coordinate user education initiatives within established frameworks.
  • Develop and maintain the branch collection, participate in cataloguing, manage physical resources, and contribute to budgetary decisions.
  • Supervise public IT resources, provide access to online databases, and offer research, information, and referral services.
  • Coordinate & deliver community-focussed programs
  • Manage physical resources and the environment to provide welcoming and attractive spaces for our library users
  • Work closely with Branch Team Leaders and other library teams to Supervise and coach relevant staff, liaise with other information and library staff

About You

We are looking for someone with: 

  • Recognised qualifications in Information Science/Librarianship (eligible for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)
  • Demonstrated experience in staff management and achieving targets within a public library setting.
  • Exceptional customer service, strong teamwork, and a comprehensive understanding of NESB and local community needs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Comprehensive understanding and development of the diverse community needs. 

What’s on offer: 

We are offering an attractive total remuneration from $87,851 to $96,771 plus 12% superannuation.

About the role

As the Senior Library Officer you will work as part of a team and will be responsible for delivering high quality day to day customer experience services, plans and programs. 

This position will be based at Parramatta Library

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver proactive, high-quality customer service through roving support and deep knowledge of library services. 
  • Acting as Officer in Charge (OIC) when required.
  • Assist with day-to-day operations including rostering, asset management, collections, and programming, and coordinate small projects to enhance service delivery.
  • Support and train staff in using digital resources and library systems to improve efficiency and customer awareness.
  • Ensure every customer interaction aligns with Council’s Customer Service Charter and Library Customer Care Standards, contributing to memorable experiences.
  • Provide in-depth reference and research support to help customers access and navigate library information effectively.

Selection Criteria:

We are looking for someone with: 

  • Completion of an Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) accredited Course or (eligible membership of ALIA) and relevant experience.)
  • Paid Working with Children Check.
  • Demonstrated experience in staff management and project delivery within a public library environment, with a strong focus on service improvement and community engagement.
  • Exceptional customer service skills, with the ability to actively listen, communicate clearly, and build positive relationships across diverse audiences.
  • Strong planning, organisation, and conflict resolution abilities, with proficiency in digital technologies, troubleshooting, and managing multiple priorities under pressure.
