About the Role  

Whittlesea Library is seeking a permanent full time Coordinator Programs and Engagement.  

 As a valued part of the YPRL Team, you will actively promote and implement services and programs to ensure the important role of the library as a community hub and to positively contribute to the team environment. You will utilise your diverse creative skills to plan, coordinate and evaluate programs and other events with the community and utilising your technology skills and knowledge.  

   As the Coordinator, you will:  

  • Liaise with community groups, educational institutions, key stakeholders and the wider community.  
  • Plan, coordinate and evaluate library programs and events in collaboration with branch staff.  
  • Deliver programs in branch and at other library service points with a focus on outreach programming.  
  • Awareness of current library programming trends including STEAM and Literacy.  
  • Proficiency with technology and the ability to acquire new skills to keep up with emerging technologies and applications.  
  • Contribute to marketing to support library events and programs.  
  • Respond to a range of library operations that support customers in a self-serve environment based on high level of knowledge of library products and services, including circulation and collections management.  
  • Plan and deliver a diverse range of training to the public and staff.  
  • Contribute to the of the role of the library as a place for reading, learning and community.

 The role will also, in collaboration with other library coordinators and community groups, design and deliver a range of innovative outreach services and activities to increase access to and awareness of library services across the region.   

It is a requirement of this position to deliver regular storytimes.  

  About you  

You are known for your warmth and creativity, plus the ability to innovate and problem solve.  With a great ability in developing, implementing and coordinating programs and events and be able to utilise the your technology skills.  As the Coordinator Programs & Engagement you will build strong partnerships with community groups and work collaboratively with branch staff and all YPRL Coordinators.  

 You have the ability to gain co-operation and assistance from members of the public and other employees in providing library services, programs, events and activities guaranteeing an excellent customer service experience. Experience in delivery of children’s storytimes, or similar programs would be an advantage.

  • Demonstrated ability to activate libraries with innovative and community inclusive programming.

About You

Your commencing rate of pay will be between $69,600.48 - $76,229.10 p.a., plus superannuation, subject to your library qualifications and experience.

About the Role

YPRL is currently seeking a permanent part-time Officer Reading, Learning & Community presently located at Eltham Library and the Mobile Library, however, you may be required to work at any other YPRL sites when required.

Our Officers provide a high standard of service to Yarra Plenty Regional Library customers and to the wider community. 

About the Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a courteous and effective communication style, with the ability to interact with both children and their parents.  The successful incumbents will provide a high level of customer focus and will actively encourage enthusiasm for reading in children and assisting with running craft activities during school holidays on the Mobile Library and regular Storytimes both on the Mobile Library and in branch. 

The ideal candidate for this position should possess strong customer service skills, problem solving skills, be able to communicate effectively with all library users and members of the community and to be able to think on their feet to solve any issues. They should actively encourage a love for reading through reader advisory and prioritise customer satisfaction.  Adaptability, flexibility, and a positive team-oriented approach are essential qualities we are looking for in the successful candidate.

Responsibilities:

Providing courteous and effective communication with all customers to provide an efficient and timely service based on good knowledge of library products and services

Maintaining a high level of customer focus by responding to customer needs, assisting with promotional activities, functions and displays, providing basic reference information and participating in the provision of community engagement services to grow library membership and usage

Performing a range of library operations that support customers in a self serve environment, including circulation and collection maintenance duties as directed.

Actively contributing to a positive team environment by supporting the branch in achieving day to day operations, active participation in planning and staff meetings, attendance at training and through advocacy for branch and regional development

Contributing to the role of the library as a place for reading, learning, and meeting

As part of the requirement to assist with the Mobile Library, you will be required to use your own method of transport to attend the depot and then assist in the van by delivering books to outreach points and between branch locations.

What you’ll bring:

  • University level qualification in Library and Information Studies, Technology or other relevant area of study/experience
  • A valid Working with Children Check
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in customer service and/or program delivery, budget management, project management and staff supervision, with proven capacity to lead and develop staff (Applicable when applying for Coordinator, Library Experience)

OR

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in collection management, budget management, project management and staff supervision, with proven capacity to lead and develop staff (Applicable when applying for Coordinator, Library Resources)

Band 5 $80,382 – $92,796 per annum, pro rata (plus super)

2 x Permanent Part Time positions – 30 hours per week – (includes one evening shift per week and one weekend shift per month)

About the role

There is an amazing opportunity for a creative and passionate Literacy Officer to join our contemporary library service.

The role’s key responsibilities include delivering high-quality literacy and language assistance, fostering learning, literacy, and social inclusion.

The Literacy Officer is a member of the Greater Dandenong Libraries team, working across all branches and hubs to deliver efficient and effective library and information services. This role may also include providing outreach services to various locations within the City of Greater Dandenong.

The role will supervise staff and ensure the smooth operation of front-of-house Library Services as the rostered Officer in Charge, offering a responsive and flexible service. Experience in providing literacy support to individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds will be essential in meeting the community's diverse needs. By supporting community members in their literacy and learning journeys, the role will promote social inclusion and empower individuals to achieve their goals.

About you

The successful applicant will provide effective and efficient library and information services to all users, demonstrate the ability to network and liaise with a range of internal, private and community agencies and individuals. Offer one-on-one support for written documentation, e-government, homework help, resumes, job applications, and guide patrons in selecting appropriate learning methods and resources.

You may be required to undertake work preference profiling / psychometric testing, functional capacity assessment (physical) or aptitude testing.

The successful candidate will be asked to produce a clear Working with Children Check and will be asked to consent to a national police check (and where relevant an ‘international criminal history check’), subject to the operation of spent conviction laws.
