What you’ll need for success:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage community programs and a strong understanding of public library practices in a regional context, including effective media and promotion.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including high‑quality reporting, correspondence and procedural documentation.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, support change, solve problems and negotiate in a team environment.
  • Ability to provide guidance, training and support to staff and volunteers in program delivery and engagement activities.

The positions report to the Library Manager and will require you to engage with and support. We are seeking individuals who can interact well with a wide variety of people, with strong communication skills and an adaptable approach to work. You will be expected to work within existing practices and make suggestions on how we can improve our service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Improve outcomes for community members through lifelong learning programs in the City of Fremantle.
  • Build connections with internal and external stakeholders, including not-for-profit organisations and government agencies.
  • Develop and deliver innovative programs and events that encourage community learning, encourage community connections, and enrich and inspire the Fremantle community.

About the role

The Weekend Library Officer position will assist and support the Branch Librarian and Weekend Supervisor to ensure the overall management of the day to day operations of one of the Inner Wests’ four Branch libraries and their partnering neighbourhood libraries.

Key functions include high quality customer service, staff management, administration of the day to day functions, working at the service desk and assisting with activities and programs. You may be required to work on the library floor at both the branch and neighbourhood libraries. You will also be required to delivery storytime, rhyme time or other programs.

You will be required to participate in a number of library team meetings and activities arranged annually.

Reporting to the Branch Librarian and Weekend Branch Supervisor, you will be responsible to provide essential information and guidance regarding the collections and programming, including children’s activities specific to each library and community.

This position will rotate between branches and neighbourhood libraries. At this point, it is likely the rotation will occur bi-annually.

Remuneration

$28,084.78 - $31,247.65 (pro-rata) + 12% Superannuation + Weekend Penalty rates apply

Some of the required skills, experience and qualifications

  1. Degree or higher of Library and Information Services or equivalent or tertiary qualifications in a related discipline with experience to meet essential experience or skill criteria.
  2. Demonstrated experience and a success track record in public libraries including information and reference services, customer service, library workflows, daily programmes delivery and collection development
  3. Demonstrated in depth knowledge of library technology
  4. Ability and willingness to promote and assist in the delivery of activities and programs for the library's customers
  5. Ability to work and plan effectively as an individual and as a team member
  6. Ability to identify priorities, meet deadlines and work quickly and accurately under pressure
  7. Knowledge and a general interest in current trends in public libraries, lending services, emerging information technologies, publishing, contemporary culture and experience in implementing innovative ideas to create new programs

Yarra Libraries are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Library Leadership Team. In this role, you will lead day-to-day library branch operations and oversee program and service delivery. You will also monitor the quality and effectiveness of library services at the branch within budget and library policy. As leader of the Promotions and Online Engagement team, you will actively promote library services, programs and resources through established communication channels and networks, actively seeking new channels and networks to reach new audiences and potential partners. You'll also oversee regular planning and production schedules to prepare the library’s regular events calendar and ensure timely communications across print and digital distribution channels.

The Library Programs and Partnerships Officer works within the Creative and Engaged City Department at Springvale and Dandenong Library sites and Keysborough Library Lounge with the opportunity to deliver to outreach locations within the City of Greater Dandenong.

The role’s key responsibilities include the planning, development and high-quality project support of Library Service programs and events, including the coordination of print, online and social media marketing. The position also involves engaging stakeholders in the planning, delivery and evaluation of library programs and partnerships.

About you

The successful applicant will have excellent written and oral communication skills, demonstrated program/project management experience, a passion for community engagement and development and an interest in innovative technology and programs.

Reporting to the Coordinator Programs, Systems & Collections, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of collection development and maintenance across Mackay Regional Council libraries.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing collection development and maintenance, including acquisitions, cataloguing, classification, serials, circulation and materials processing
  • Planning and overseeing collection inventory processes to ensure accuracy, integrity and best practice
  • Analysing and reporting on collection data to support strategic and operational decision-making
  • Contributing to the development and review of policies, procedures and the Library Collection Development Plan
  • Assisting with budget development, monitoring and financial sustainability of collections
  • Leading, coaching and developing a multi-skilled team committed to continuous improvement
  • Supporting customer-focused library services and collaborative relationships with stakeholders

About You

You are a strategic and analytical library professional with a passion for collections, data-driven decision-making and people leadership. You thrive in a continuous improvement environment and are confident leading teams, managing competing priorities and adapting to emerging trends and technologies.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Library & Information Science or a related field, or equivalent qualifications and experience appropriate to the role
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing library collections, including library management systems and emerging trends
  • Proven leadership experience, including coaching, performance management and team development
  • Experience analysing data, preparing reports and making evidence-based recommendations
  • Working with Children Blue Card
  • Current Queensland “C” Class Driver Licence (or interstate equivalent, transferable within three months)

Desirable

  • Eligibility for membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • High-level analytical and critical thinking capability
  • Excellent problem-solving and negotiation skills

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Libraries team operate eight (8) locations across the Cumberland LGA and assist customers and members of the public with locating materials, answering questions and providing guidance on research strategies.  

The team also hold a wide variety of events across these locations, ranging from educational and cultural programs to social and community-building activities.

The Senior Library Team Member is responsible for carrying out customer service duties efficiently and professionally, and to provide high quality customer service to both internal and external library customers. This role will also be the officer in charge during the hours that they are working ensuring all staff adhere to the libraries policies and procedures. You will have the opportunity to assist customers in accessing library resources whilst participating in running of activities including children's story time and adult classes. 

The successful applicant will require:

  • Diploma of Library and Information Services or relevant qualification 
  • Eligible for Library Technician membership of ALIA
  • Experience in a library environment 
  • Well-developed literacy, numeracy and oral communication skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team
  • Experience in using computers and the internet in a professional environment
  • Valid Working with Children Check

About this role: 

  • Permanent full-time position
  • Working 70 hours per fortnight on a roster between 8:00am to 8:00pm, Monday to Sunday
  • Access to Council's 9 day fortnight Rostered Day Off (RDO) arrangement
  • You may be required to work at any Cumberland Councils libraries across the LGA.

Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

  • Grade 8 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1,376.59 to $1,686.33 per week plus 12% superannuation.
  • The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role
