What you’ll be doing:

  • Liaise with Team Leaders regarding staffing levels for rosters.
  • Develop and communicate work rosters for Hume Libraries teams within budgetary guidelines

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

  • Demonstrated experience in accounts and budget management including relevant technology, procedures and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, develop and communicate complex daily rosters across multiple sites.
  • Proficiency and comprehensive and experience in all library operational processes and procedures, including relevant technology.
  • Ability to identify customer needs and expectations, decide the appropriate action and respond accordingly.
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations and present a positive Council image.
  • Ability to develop working relationships with staff and work together in a team environment.
  • Experience in a Public Library or similar environment.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, demonstrating excellent customer service with the capacity to effectively manage challenging customers while maintaining a positive and professional Council image.

Required Certifications & Qualifications 

  • Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Services or equivalent post-secondary qualification or less formal qualifications with work skills and relevant experience.

About the role

An exciting opportunity has come up to join Merri-bek Libraries in a collection services role. This is a temporary backfill role while the incumbent undertakes a secondment with another library service.

The Collection Services Librarian is responsible for the efficient cataloguing of library resources and maintenance of the library’s bibliographic database; supervising and coordinating collection services staff; liaising with shelf-ready suppliers; developing, maintaining and documenting changes to workflows and work procedures, particularly with regard to collection maintenance tasks and the integrated library management system; and providing high-quality customer service to our diverse community.

Skills and experience require to perform the role

  • Good teamwork skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of DDC, RDA, Library of Congress subject headings, Anglo American Cataloguing Rules and MARC format and demonstrated experience in cataloguing library resources.
  • Experience with administrative and/or technical aspects of an Integrated Library Management System.
  • Excellence in service provision to all sections of the community.
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations.
  • Good digital literacy skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of child safety and wellbeing requirements and how this applies in the public library setting.

The Role

You will play a key part in enhancing digital literacy, improving access to technology, and supporting customers to confidently engage with a range of library digital services and platforms.

In this role you will:

  • Deliver customer – focused library services that respond to community needs
  • Support patrons in using library technology, digital tools, and online resources
  • Develop and lead innovative digital programming for a wide range of community members
  • Develop a programming schedule for the creative technology items in the new Library of Things
  • Work collaboratively with library staff to deliver high-quality, innovative services
  • Support continuous improvement in service delivery and digital offerings.

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor level qualifications in Library and Information studies or other relevant area.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify new technologies/digital opportunities that benefit library service delivery and programming.
  • Experience in developing and implementing events and programs.
  • Proven experience in a customer-facing role and enthusiastic approach to working with the community.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, procedure writing and implementation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of individuals and organisations.
  • Proven organisational skills, a commitment to deliver outcomes to deadlines and a willingness to embrace change.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
