About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced library professional to combine people leadership, customer service excellence and service innovation in a highly visible role in the Reader Services Branch. 

As a Senior Library Technician, you will lead and support a team of Library Technicians and Library Assistants to deliver high-quality services that meet the evolving needs of readers and researchers. You will play a key role in coordinating daily operations, ensuring service standards are met, managing staff capability and wellbeing, and contributing to the ongoing improvement of services, systems and processes. 

Working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, you will provide expert reference and information services directly to readers while helping shape the future of service delivery through collaboration, data-informed decision making and continuous improvement initiatives.

This position includes occasional evening and weekend shifts.

About the role

An exciting opportunity has come up to join Merri-bek Libraries. This is a permanent full time role based at Brunswick and Campbell Turnbull Libraries.

The Children’s and Youth Services Librarian role is responsible for providing targeted library and information services to children and young people, promoting early literacy, supporting and mentoring members of the children’s and youth team, assisting with the collection development of the children and youth collections, providing outreach to local schools, kindergartens, day care centres and other places where our families and young people gather, and providing culturally safe programming for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, including the inclusion of Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung language and storytelling opportunities.

Skills and experience require to perform the role

  • Teamwork, supervisory and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve problems using creativity and originality when required, and to defuse potential conflict. 
  • Ability to contribute to and deliver projects and programs, including developing, planning, implementing, and reviewing, within agreed timeframes. 
  • Ability to consistently lead, motivate and coach staff and to gain the cooperation and support of team members to achieve team goals and objectives. 
  • Demonstrated experience in organising community-based programs and services to targeted groups.

About the role

In performing this role, your day-to-day responsibilities will be to manage effective library operations of the Brunswick and Campbell Turnbull Libraries, engage with our diverse community to provide high-quality customer service, and foster an environment that empowers and motivates both the Brunswick Libraries’ and the Children’s and Youth Services teams. As part of the Library Leadership Group, this role contributes to the library’s strategic and operational planning, policies, systems and procedures. The Team Leader will also lead the development, delivery and evaluation of a range of resources, programs and promotions that respond to the needs of children and young people in the Merri-bek community.

Skills and experience require to perform the role

  • Excellent team building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve problems using creativity and originality when required and to defuse potential conflict.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve continuous improvement and a proactive approach in initiating new or enhanced programs and services.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, manage and deliver effective programs within agreed timelines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge and ability in the area of services for children and youth.
  • Excellence in service provision to all sections of the community.
  • Degree in Library and Information Services or similar field with relevant work experience, or through lesser formal qualifications with relevant work skills and experience.
  • Eligibility for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).
  • A current Working With Children Check.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Child safety and wellbeing requirements and how this applies in the public library setting.

About the role

We are pleased to offer a First People's Identified role with Merri-bek Libraries. This is a permanent full-time role based at Glenroy and Fawkner Libraries.

The Adult and Information Services Librarian role is responsible for organising book groups and other reader development programs, local history talks, promoting and acquiring adult collection items, e-resources, and also for identifying and acquiring items for the ganbo marra and Local Studies collections. There is a requirement to supervise staff and work placement students, and an opportunity to provide culturally safe programming for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. This role also assists in the maintenance, organisation and preservation of materials relating to the history of the local community.
