ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Branch Library Officer at Wee Waa, you will play a pivotal role in the daily operations of one of our library branches, ensuring that they are welcoming spaces where knowledge and creativity thrive. Your role is not just about managing books; it’s about building connections, fostering creativity, and enhancing cultural enrichment through accessible library services. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and maintaining the Library’s collection and resources, ensuring they are current, well-presented and ready for use by the community.
  • Participating in routine library duties, including reception duties, collection and reconciliation of fees and charges, processing resources and shelving.
  • Contributing to the currency of the Library Management System records through accurate data entry and care to detail
  • Providing excellent and inclusive customer service, including reference and readers advisory services, and digital literacy support

  • Certificate IV in Library and Information and Cultural Services or active progression towards or willingness to obtain the essential qualification and/or relevant experience in a customer service environment.

About the Role

JOB DESCRIPTION
Liverpool Council’s Library and Museum Services operate six libraries, including the award winning Yellamundie Library and Gallery.  Our libraries are visited by 1000’s of people each day as a place to work, play and study. 
We are looking for a Multicultural Services Librarian to support the implementation of the library’s vision, mission, and strategic plans. The role will provide training and guidance to staff to ensure high‑quality customer service and the delivery of targeted multicultural programs to address local community needs.

You will also support the Library Collections team to develop and deliver quality multicultural services to internal and external customers through participation in regular staff meetings and work reviews, annual work plans and ongoing communications.

The library’s helpful and friendly staff are highly valued by the community and receive the highest ratings in community surveys. 

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Manage and maintain collections to support multicultural communities, including materials in a range of formats and languages based on community demand, including collections to support language learning and lifelong learning for these communities.
  • Review, maintain and report to the Team Leader Library Collections and Information Services on the performance of Multicultural Library collections, Monitoring suppliers and contractors, budget tracking, and processing standards for multicultural collections.
  • Manage and supervise designated Multicultural collection areas in conjunction with branch staff, to ensure collections are well presented and accessible.
  • Deliver customer focused multicultural library programs, including English learning programs and support and engagement of multicultural communities in library programs.
  • Support communications and partnerships within the library service, Council and multicultural community stakeholders to ensure effective services for customers, migrant communities, and network partners
  • Actively lead and participate in staff support, engagement and development activities for Multicultural Services.
  • Provide direct customer support across library network as required, including night shift and weekend shifts.

ABOUT YOU
The successful applicant will have:

  • Completion of degree or postgraduate level library and information studies, conferring eligibility for associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association.
  • Experience working in a public library and or customer service environment.
  • Experience in formulating and drafting new policies, procedures and reporting processes.
  • Ability to plan, resource and implement a service or collection.
  • Experience in developing collections in various formats within budget limits.
  • Contributing to strategic planning and the development of business plans.
  • Proven experience in supervising a service, preferably the provision ofquality multicultural collection services.
  • Knowledge of professional standards and practices relating to the acquisition, cataloguing and processing of library materials.
  • Knowledge of and competent use of library management systems, digital technology, and corporate systems.
  • Specialised knowledge in multicultural collection development, management and control, and language learning and support.
  • Class C Drivers Licence.

The role 

We are seeking a digital star with technical skills, creativity and vision to help shape digital preservation and presentation of our unique Heritage Collections. We’re looking for someone who is excited to play a key role in enhancing the rich digital data relating to the local heritage we care for. 

In this role, you will identify, develop and implement digitisation and digital asset management projects to increase customer access to historical resources, and oversee digital asset management systems and processes to manage and preserve digital data.  

The person

You are a highly organised and technically skilled professional with experience in digitisation, digital collections, archives, libraries or cultural heritage environments. Passionate about improving access to historical collections, you combine strong project management and digital preservation expertise with excellent communication and customer service skills. You are confident working with digital asset management systems and emerging technologies, enjoy solving problems and improving processes, and can work collaboratively with colleagues, contractors and the community.

A keen eye for detail, commitment to best practice, and enthusiasm for preserving and sharing local history will see you thrive in this role.

We are currently seeking an energetic and motivated Library Assistant to join the Programs and Outreach team at Stanton Library, to support the delivery of a diverse, innovative and inclusive schedule of library programs and outreach activities for all ages. 

You will assist in the administration, on-the-day set-up and delivery of a range of events and activities for the North Sydney community and support with the delivery of core children’s and youth programs and school engagement activities.  

The person

You are an enthusiastic and customer-focused team player who enjoys creating engaging experiences for the community, along with experience supporting events, programs or community activities. 

You have excellent communication skills, strong digital literacy, a passion for delivering outstanding customer service and are confident managing multiple tasks in a busy environment.

Play an important role in delivering our flagship Writers @ Stanton author talk series, engaging school outreach and education programs, and supporting a diverse range of community groups that connect people with learning, culture and creativity.

Experienced in events and building networks, you thrive on bringing people together through engaging cultural, educational and literary experiences.
