PLA seeks to support Australian public libraries and their Councils through its free job vacancy service 'PLA eConnect'.
The PLA eConnect service includes job list posting on the PLA website, distribution via our national weekly eConnect Bulletin, and promotion via our social media.
PLA also offers its platforms to public libraries and their associations wishing to promote their events, activities and programs, and also to those seeking collaborative partnerships with other libraries e.g., on special projects.

Role Statement
Public Libraries Australia (PLA) was established in 2002 in response to a recognised need for a national body dedicated to supporting and representing the interests of the Australian public library sector. Since its formation, PLA has worked to foster collaboration across library services, champion the value of public libraries, and provide practical tools and services that enhance the sector’s capacity and reach.
One of PLA’s core services is PLA eConnect, a free national job vacancy advertising service designed to support local government and public libraries in attracting high-quality candidates from across the country. This service includes listing vacancies on the PLA website, promotion through the weekly eConnect Bulletin distributed to a wide national audience, and additional visibility via PLA’s active social media channels.
Looking ahead, PLA is planning to expand its recruitment services in 2026, with a focus on increasing sector support and improving workforce capability. Enhancements to the functionality and capacity of the PLA website are also under consideration to better meet the evolving needs of members and users.
Beyond recruitment, PLA actively supports sector collaboration and visibility. Its digital platforms are available to public libraries and associated organisations wishing to promote events, activities, programs, and seek out collaborative project partners. By enabling knowledge sharing and joint initiatives, PLA hopes to play an active role in strengthening innovation and community impact within Australia’s public libraries.
