From the PLA Chair

Dear PLA Members

Thank you for your continued support and membership of Public Libraries Australia!

Your membership benefits include:

  • Being part of a network of professionals who, like you, are dedicated to the future of public libraries.
  • PLA is also committed to working on behalf of its members to move the profession forward and represent the interests of public librarians and public libraries everywhere.
  • Free advertising of job vacancies on the PLA website, and via links in our bi-monthly eNewsletter. This service continues to grow and receives a high level of web traffic. PLA will also be making available a private online application lodgement service for member libraries, including a cloud-based document ‘dropbox’.
  • PLA eConnect – our newsletter service continues to provide subscribers with a cost-effective way of reaching their memberships and communities. This service is proudly Australian-owned and based, and provides PLA with the means to provide funding for the annual eConnect Award.
  • PLA eConnect Award – our inaugural $2,000 award went to Sunshine Coast Libraries in Queensland, and was used to offset the costs of attendance at the IFLA Congress in Columbus, Ohio in August 2016.

Things to note for the coming year:

  • The PLA website is undergoing a re-build, which will be completed in the next couple of months. Any suggestions you may have on improving the website would be welcome.
  • PLA is seeking Board applicants! If you are interested in joining the Board please don't hesitate to contact our Executive Officer for more details.
  • The next eConnect Award round will be announced towards the end of 2017.
